My ancestral roots are in the European countries of mostly Poland and Germany. I grew up in Warren, MI and I am the younger of two girls. Both my parents were hard-working blue-collar people who taught me the value of integrity and being open to all people. It was here that I met my husband, Ken, in high-school. We married in 1983 and have one adult daughter.

I studied at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit and Madonna University where I earned a degree in Pastoral Ministry and Business Management. I was trained as a Spiritual Director at the Dominican Center for Religious Studies and did one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit. In 2013 I was graduated from Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Detroit with a Masters of Divinity Degree. I am a bit of a geek when it comes to school.

I have worked most of my adult life serving the universal church (first in the Roman Catholic Church and now in the United Church of Christ), but have also a bit of experience in retail management and accounting. I am a member of the Linking Board of the Detroit Metropolitan Association - Michigan Conference of the United Church of Christ. As a member, I facilitate the Inclusiveness Mission Area Team. The extravagant welcome of God and the UCC are a passion of mine.

I see "the church" as the gathered community of believers, but also welcome those who are not sure what, if anything, they believe. Doubt is an important part of faith as it can bring us to a deeper understanding of the Divine. As the Body of Christ, the church, all of us are needed and important. As Pastor, I will also have my own challenges, struggles, and doubts. Being together in faith, as we are, is what I think church should be lived.

I look forward to being a part of this community for as long as God calls us to be together. The one thing about God is that God keeps you on your toes. It is best we hold onto our plans loosely as God may just have other ideas. You are always in my prayers and I humbly ask that you keep me in yours.

Gods Blessings and Peace,
Pastor Rev. Carrie

cj Kirkpatrick, Administrative Assistant

Carol Kirkpatrick ("cj" to most) grew up in Massachusetts. After college in Boston, and a number of years later, she moved to southern California and worked for a major government contracting firm. That firm sent her to Washington, D.C. to be a member of their Northern Virginia facility, where she met her husband. After a few years she and her husband moved back to California into "semi-retirement." She became widowed in 2004 and moved to Michigan to be near her son, who lived in Wyandotte.

She found First Congregational Church, and after attending just a short while, was lucky enough to fill the vacant secretarial spot - a considerable and welcome change from corporate executive offices!

cj resides in Gibraltar, MI where she is (happily) maidservant to a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel!

cj can be contacted via E-mail at: or through the church office.
